Why your next holiday should be a digital detox

There's a particular kind of quiet that happens on holiday, if you let it. Here's why we build every Soladea trip around the space to switch off.

You know when you put your phone away, and five minutes later it’s back in your hand anyway, not because anything’s actually happened, but because it’s a habit. That’s usually the sign you need a digital detox, a few days somewhere far enough from normal life that reaching for it stops feeling automatic.

That’s the bit we’re always chasing on a Soladéa trip, and it’s not a wellness programme or a set of rules about screen time. It’s just the space to actually switch off, because for once, nobody needs you.

The habit we didn’t choose

Most of us didn’t decide to be reachable every hour of the day, it just happened, one email app and one group chat at a time, until checking your phone became something your hand does before your brain’s caught up. You’re not doing anything wrong, you’re just tired in a very specific, low hum kind of way that a lie in doesn’t fix.

A few days somewhere properly beautiful works differently, and it’s less about willpower than about giving yourself somewhere good enough that you’d rather look at it than your screen.

What actually happens when you switch off

Give it a day and the itch to check your phone starts to fade. Give it three and you notice things again properly, like the way the light changes over the water in the evening, or what your new friend is actually saying instead of half listening while you scroll.

Sleep tends to improve, so does your mood and your patience, and your ability to sit with a coffee and do absolutely nothing without reaching for anything. It’s a small thing that adds up to a big one.

How we build this in

We’re not going to take your phone off you, but we do build our trips so you naturally forget to reach for it. Slow mornings on the terrace at Villa Brsečine, afternoons swimming off the boat or wandering Dubrovnik’s old streets with nowhere to be, evenings over fresh oysters in Ston where the conversation runs long because nothing’s pulling you away from it.

By the middle of the week, most of our guests have stopped mentioning their phones at all, and that’s not an accident. It’s what happens when a place is good enough, and the company is good enough, that you simply don’t want to look away.

Slow down, and stay a little longer than you planned.
